The youth group lock-in is scheduled for February 17-18. All Wednesday night youth are invited to spend the night in the meeting house for a great time of games, hanging out, and worship. And bring a friend!

The Wooden Spoon Project

The Wooden Spoon Project continues! We currently have a treadmill in great condition for trade. Trade for it and keep your new year’s resolution to excecise more! If your intrested in this item or just in helping us to raise funds for Right Sharing of World Resources, you can offer a trade in the box just outside of the pastor’s office. Little Music Makers Winter Session

Our Winter Little Music Makers Classes for Children from 18 months to 5 years of age with an adult partner continues throughout February with classes on February 7, February 14, and February 28 (with no classes on February 21) with two class times: 11:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

“Good Times Jamboree” Update

This year’s Spring Musical, “Good Times Jamboree: Country Fun & Gospel Classics,” is off to a great start! There will be two performances: Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. in Ragan Fellowship Hall. As in recent years, 100% of our Love Offering goes for water filters, wells, and water works for Quakers in Kenya. This year’s play is a variety show of gospel classics and humor, and we had a great turn out of both students and adults at our first cast call on January 22.

Wendy Snider is our wonderful choreographer, and we have a terrific band lined up to make marvelous gospel music. The High Point Area Arts Council has given us a grant to help with costs for our musicians, and we are grateful. How can you help us? Tell your friends and neighbors to save the dates!

Ministry Teams & Coordinator

Several Ministry Teams are being formed to fulfill vital ministries at High Point Friends Meeting. Currently we are seeking members to serve on the following teams:

Friendship Ministry Team - This ongoing team will work with the pastor to welcome visitors, form friendships with new members, and follow-up with old members whom we have not seen in awhile.
Spring Retreat Planning Team – This team will help plan the Spring Retreat that is scheduled for April 28th & 29th.
End of School Year Cook-Out Team – This group will plan and oversee the cook-out that is planned for the evening of Friday, June 1st.
VBS Planning Team – This Team will plan to 2012 VBS program that will be on June 24th-26th.
Newsletter Coordinator - We are also looking for a person to work with the meeting staff to help add content and publish the Friendly Light Newsletter. Talk to Kelly for more information concerning this ministry.

Fellowship Meal

The Fellowship Team will host a Fellowship Meal after worship on February 12th. The purpose of this meal is to simply eat together and enjoy each other’s company. No agenda! No business! The cost of the meal is $3 per member. Visitors are invited join us as our guests.

FUM CHAIN OF PRAYER

The theme for this year’s Chain of Prayer is “A Great People to be Gathered”. High Point Friends Meeting participation date is Sunday, February 26. Friends United Meeting has asked that we lift up in prayer the general board members as well as their global projects in Africa, Belize, Cuba, Jamaica, and Ramallah. We will also pray for our Meeting and other area Meetings. A sign up sheet is located in the foyer and everyone is encouraged to commit for a one-half hour prayer time. On February 26, all Sunday School classes are invited to join us in Ragan Hall as we become more connected through prayer with the many ministries of Friends United Meeting. — Kathy Baker, Missions Mobilizer

Pastor’s Class

On January 15, during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday School hour, Kelly will be leading a Pastor’s Class. The four week class will cover a brief history of Friends, along with Friends Faith & Practice. This class is for anyone who wants to become members or may wish simple learn more about Quakers.

Ministry Teams

As of January 1 the new ministry structure with new meeting officers is in effect. Please pray for our new clerk, Greg Sheets, and the members of the new Ministry & Oversight Team as they begin their responsibilities. Copies of the Nominating Committee report are available in the Information Centers or on-line (web viewers may click here to see the online presentation and report).

Mark Your Calendars: Our new clerk has called the first meeting of the Ministry & Oversight Team. This team will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8th. Also, the first Monthly Meeting of 2012 will be held on January 15th following worship.
